Regarding 870 express and stock bearing plates

I actually emailed Remington about this and they confirmed my question.

If you have an 870 express with a factory synthetic stock, and you wish to install a different stock on it it (A speedfeed stock for example) you will also have to purchase a stock bearing plate aswell with it, as the 870 express with factory synthetic stocks do not use them.

This is even more important if you want to replace your synthetic stocks with a wood one (police walnut stock for example), as installing a wooden stock without a stock bearing plate will cause the stock where it meets the receiver to chip.

Installing a speedfeed stock on an 870 without a stock bearing plate will place heavy stress on the stock screw/receiver stud if you were to hold the shotgun by the stock with one hand.

So keep in mind when changing stocks, to put into consideration if your 870 express has a stock bearing plate or not.
