Take down of Norinco SKS
How idiot proof is this? How often should it be done?

A bit tricky to put the trigger group back in and lock the action. There are instructions on internet.

It's very simple. The most complex part is taking apart the FCG. Make sure you take apart the bolt and clean the firing pin channel. Once you've cleaned it, you don't need to take the bolt apart again as long as you can shake the bolt back and forth and feel the firing pin tap back and forth while it free floats in the bolt. In my opinion the rest of the gun should be field stripped after every use. Field stripping is extremely easy.

I took mine apart completely when I first got it and only field strip it now. If you want something easier, get an AK.

"...How idiot proof..." The SKS was designed to be issued to illiterate conscripts. The difference between a Norinco SKS and any other SKS is the name stamped on it.
Go here for a manual. You only do more than a field strip if parts break. http://stevespages.com/pdf/sks_instruction_manual.pdf

As above have stated on the frequency of cleaning and bolt take down. The only caveat I would add is if you're shooting corrosive ammo (M68 Yugo ammo on stripper clips is back in stock at a few places). After shooting my Yugo ammo, I'd do a complete tear down and thoroughly clean.
