Not exactly news but in the past couple of months.
This was my biggest complaint about the Axis: its skinny grip like a 22LR.
I have a Boyds thumbhole varmint stock on a Savage 10 and it is nice, easy to install, and more fun to shoot.
My Axis trigger broke in nicely, and I do not even think about a trigger upgrade anymore.

I did the same thing steve when I bought my Axis in .223 and got pretty much the same measurment you did. So I just loaded to the specified length in the book for my 55 gr sierra HP and 60gr Hornady V-Max. The Sierra is @2.240" and the V-Max is @2.260". The HP's are shooting less than 1" at 100yds in 5 shot groups. The V-Max's are shooting 1/2" to 3/4" again 5 shot groups. I am very happy with this gun for the money. I have shot 1" to 1 1/4" groups @ 200yds so far. I have been having really good luck with Hodgdon BLC(2) powder. I hate the stock on the Axis and ordered the Boyd's stock a couple weeks ago and can't wait to get it. I think I am going to try and bed the action and see how it does then but so far very happy with this gun that cost $329 brand new.

Why would you want to bed the stock of a free floated barrel? On my 10 the barrel only touches the two mounting screws. I plan to leave it that way.

Only bedding the Action not the barrel. The barrel will still be floating.

I'd like to contact Jim243 regarding his post to this thread. I sent him a private message, perhaps he doesn't log in very often these days, as the post is over three years old.

Alternately, I'd like to hear from anyone using the 75 grain A-Max .223 bullets in a Savage model 10. The bullet box indicates for barrels with a 1:7 twist, yet the Savage model 10 uses a 1:9 twist, so I'm curious about the stabilization.
Anyone?

I reload 75 grain Hornady A-Max at 2.390 for my Savage bolt action model 10 which is a 0.05 off the lands for my rifle. Shoots super accurate, like a laser straight to the target.
