Spare cylinder for Pietta '51 Navy Colt
There are two (2) kinds of cylinders, one which has a "straight" profile, the other has a "step" or a "shoulder" about mid-way in its length. Are these two types interchangeable?

My opinion is...
Yes, the Pietta Colt 1851 .44 cylinders and the Pietta Colt 1860 .44 cylinders are interchangeable, as are both the rebated and non-rebated .44 replacement cylinders for each.
http://www.thehighroad.org/showthrea...=1851+cylinder But for some reason, Cabela's product page for the spare 1851 Sheriff cylinder states that it will only fit the Sheriff model. But I'm not sure why. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shoot...Tz_stype%3DGNP Last edited by arcticap; December 16, 2011 at 05:34 PM. |

Aren't we talking about...
....a .44 rebated cylinder and a .36 non-rebated cylinder?

Even the barrels, cylinders and grip frames for some of the Pietta Colt .36's and .44's can be swapped, although that's not to guarantee that some fitting won't be required.

Nope...I was actually wrong about that. My .44 has the rebated cylinder.
