Need some insight on what to choose for new optics on my DPMS AP4 in .308 w/ titan comp. I had an Eotech 516 on it and it worked pretty good for keeping a 20rd mag in a 6" circle at 200 yards, but I want more. I took the 4.5-14x40 Nikon Buckmaster off my 30-06 to see if I liked having glass on the AR and it was a night and day difference. I was able to literally cut my groups in half. Considering the weather I am very pleased with the results.

Here is my quandary, I want to have a lower power magnification so I do not give up on close range shots. I was initially thinking about a 2.5-10x42 Monarch ($450), but now am thinking I might enjoy having something with a higher top end. I have been looking at the 2.5-16x50 Bushnell 6500 ($700)or a 2.5x12.5x42 Clearidge XP5 ($510). Both are above what I want to spend ($450 max), but I could swing it if I work a few off-duty gigs.

Any suggestions? Owners have any complaints?

Depends on your end results/goals. How far are you wanting to shoot out?
Have you considered getting a magnifier for your Eotech?

600-800 yards max, 500 yards would be the norm. I already have a magnified for the eotech. It bulky/ heavy and a pain to use.
