Picking a High End AR
When looking at high end ars the one thing i look for most is value, even though i'm willing to spend 3 grand on an ar-15 I'm not going to spend it if it isn't worth it's weight in gold. The brands i looked at were: Larue, Noveske, LMT, PWS, POF, LWRC, KAC, and H&K. I was looking at a 18 inch barrel, so my first concern was accuracy, all of them are very accurate, but pof, larue, and noveske came out on top in that order. Next i was looking at reliability, POF, LWRC, H&K, and PWS came out on top in this category in that order. I also looked at durability, POF came out on top hands down. I have seen over 40k rounds through a pof no problem. Next up is value, POF comes out on top again. PWS is close behind. POF p415s go for around $1750. The P415 is in the price range if not slightly lower priced than most high end ar15s. In my opinion larue guns are a bit overpriced, as well as noveske and others, especially H&K, 3 grand for an ar15... The p415's internals are np3 plated so no lube is needed. The gas system is dead simple. They come with a giessele ssa trigger, or for the p416 ssf. They also come with an ambidextrous bolt release, selector, and mag release; as well as the kns anti walk pins. They also have a great rail system. And the barrel, 20k round minimum. They are bolt gun accurate, and have no stringing issues when the barrel gets hot. All in all, i am a huge pof fan, and hopefully this will help some people looking to get a high end ar.

I'm surprised Colt isn't on your list. Colt AR's are the standard by which all others are usually judged.
(Larry Vickers top choices are Colt, BCM and Daniel Defense FWIW.) But you're certainly on the right track with Larue, Noveske, LMT and HK, et al. Good luck, post pics of your new AR when you can.

No lube needed. Heh! That's what they told us in 1964. Run the bolt wet and keep it clean. |

Colt, Daniel defense and others are all great picks, just not for my proposes .
I needed sub moa performance. My p415 is a thousand yard rifle with the right load. At 100 yards I can shoot 3 rounds through the same hole I have put around 5k rounds through it no lube, just cleaned, no problem. Yea it is some ar, |

Of the ones you mentioned in your price range, the KAC and its design stands out.

American Spirit Arms... I work right across the street from them. Great guys and full lifetime warranty (on the gun, not the original purchaser).
Guaranteed sub-moa accuracy on 16" or longer rifles. Guaranteed 1/2-moa on .308 rifles. Check out their site(which I admit, could be a little better) - or give them a call. My 10.5" SBR built on their custom shop lower with their side charger upper. Zero wiggle between upper and lower, and I can just about get 1MOA out of the gun... it may be capable of it... I'm just not.

I recently challenged my buddy to a shoot off, whoever can get the tightest group. (he is a sniper too) He had a kac sr-25 and i had a p308, after it he was Pi**ed because he paid way more for his.... With my p415 i can easily pick off dimes at 100 yards. I prefer pennies though, a lot cheaper. |
