Thoughts on staging guns?

So, my son and I both keep "nightstand" guns next to our beds. All other firearms are kept in the safe. Recently I bought one of those storage boxes disguised as a book on impulse. FWIW it doesn't look like the ones on Amazon, and really does look like an old book. We have four bookcases in the living room and I'm considering hiding it in plain sight among the other books with a pistol stored in it.

Wondering who else stages firearms around the house, and if anybody does something similar to what I'm thinking?

Hiding them from visitors? That would probably work. Criminals don't bother examining books. When you sweep all the books off the shelf onto the floor, the fake ones become apparent.

Other than that, I would just say that you should think about various scenarios where you might need a gun and place the guns so that they are where you are most likely to need them.

It's just my wife and I in the house. I don't walk around the house armed 24/7. We do keep two handguns staged in two different areas of the house (not including nightstand weapons). Quick access, but very difficult for anyone to find. Be prepared, or be a victim.

Make your own nightstand with a false drawer. If you have a tablesaw these can't be that hard to make.

RSCs or safes weren't around for consumers back then and furniture could be used to hide one's loot. So if you're really an advanced cabinet maker and have the time, you can build this:

NVM the gun, I'd rather have that museum piece.

Only recently. We did a kitchen remodel last fall and I found a good hiding spot inside a dead space in the new cabinets. It's impossible to see the gun from any angle.

But it's fairly easily accessible if you know where and how. Even if you know it's there you have to stand facing a certain direction and only use your left arm reaching in up to the shoulder.

Well, now I have too many guns to fit in my gun safe. So, some hunting rifles are in closets. I keep a couple of them loaded and know where they are. Those, in addition to our nightstand gun, and the gun I carry in my gym bag are sufficient for me to get to one in a pinch, if needed.

I mean, what can a 9mm do that a 30-06 can't do?

Bad idea for us, in the common areas, since my wife gets visits from her two adult autistic MMR children regularly. Everyone's circumstances are different, that's for certain.
