High Energy Slugs

Are there any slugs that will work in a 3'' chamber which produce 4,000 pounds of energy?

I doubt it, but I could be wrong. The most powerful slug I could find for my grizzly bear defense shotgun is the Brenneke Black Magic 3in 12GA , advertised as a dangerous game defense load. It shows 3014 ft/lbs of energy at the muzzle, and 2241 ft/lbs at 25yds, and 1724 ft/lbs at 50yds. That's the best I could find, and that's what I use.

I have not seen, in any shotgun load book that I have - and I have a few, any reload data that will give you that amount of thump.
There is, however, a continuing thread on virtually every shooting forum concerning the development and testing of "the 12 gauge from hell". That gun ceased to be a shotgun a while ago (IMHO) but may give you some info.

There's no published data that even comes close. I suppose that if somebody wanted to try it, had a large selection of slugs in various weights and pressure testing capability, along with various slow-burning powders, it might be possible. I don't really see the need for such a load, but it would be some fun to play with. The main requirements would be a sturdy shoulder and the pressure-testing equipment. (And a remote trigger release

Dixie Slugs has now added the Original Dixie Tusker – 12 ga. – 3” Mag. to their line of specialized ammunition. The Tusker is .727” diameter, which is the groove diameter of the popular Hastings rifled barrel, as well as others. The weight is 600 grs. and makes it one of the heaviest on the market for rifled barrels. The truncated cone has a .500” meplat. The ballistic coefficient is .145. Interesting that the 300 Weatherby with a 165 Barnes makes 4,000 - I can't imagine firing something like that out of a pump gun.......
