Interesting thread. I suppose if one needs magnum power in a semi-auto then we would need to understand better what the need is. If it is just penetration then the 7.62x25 ought to do nicely. If it is normal two and four legged predators then I would think that the right loads in 10mm or .45ACP +P ought to be right nice. Now a herd of marauding elephants and we might be into 50AE territory but when the critters get that large I begin to wonder how many rounds we are going to be able to effectively use anyway.

That is not to say that we have to have a need for everything we want. Sometimes "I want it" is all you need... so to speak.

I will have to look up that .460, sounds interesting.

or sometimes, one of these...

These are what I use when I need magnum power in an auto pistol. Because if you need magnum power, you shoot a magnum. Not something close, but the real thing.

Glock 20 SF

This pistol fits smaller to medium hands much better than the 20 and you have the option of aftermarket barrels for lead 10mm;40 S&W;and 357 SIG.Just drop 'em in and start shooting-same mags for all three.
The 10mm is the equal at least of the 357,maybe better in some loadings which can approximate the 41 Magnum.
The Glock absorbs the 10mm recoil really well.

all 26 of my guns are 45/70 govt, 357 mag, 22 or 12 ga... I believe in keeping it simple. Wish my wife did as well...

Well, I do admit strapping on a pair of them loaded, I gain about ten pounds!

All the "first generation" magnum autos are represented, and it only took me 30 years of patience (and a butt load of money) to find them (and have the cash to buy them on my budget)!

I've never had a 10mm, with autos above and below the 10mm in performance, I never saw the need. Enjoy yours, if you have one, but don't tell me its a magnum. Its not.
