Bathrooms are often used as the safe room in the house. A solid wood door and one of those rods that braces the door closed might be a good idea in that case. I say for a handgun, a snub stainless or Ti .44 Special or .45 ACP. If it is the designated safe room of retreat, better to have a 590 Mariner or 870 Marine Magnum in there somewhere but secure from guests playing with it or even seeing it.

And my wife thinks I'm paranoid for having a gun in the bedroom and my car! Wait till I show her this thread! Seriously, my buddy has a messed up toilet in his house, so every time you flush, you have to take off the tank cover and mess with the float. Cheap SOB. If I took it off one day and found a shrink wrapped Glock back there, I would probably laugh until I peed a little.

How about a Hi Point? It will fit right in there with the toilet.

Flare gun or spear gun? They work on a boat.
If I remember correctly it was Travolta's demise in Pulp Fiction, not taking his gun into the bathroom with him. |

On the one occasion where my wife was scared enough to call the cops (ended up as a misunderstanding of a furniture delivery, coupled with a day in which I didn't lock the external door), she retreated to the bathroom which is the farthest room from the front door and the one behind the highest # of other doors. She then called the police from there, locked behind the master bedroom and master bathroom doors. She would prefer to FIRST retreat to that room, locking the doors along the way and NOT have to stop in the bedroom to get a gun out of a safe on the far side of the room. (She is not comfortable carrying in the house on a regular basis due to our small child. Our master bathroom is quite large (14'x8'), and hence ideal as a saferoom of sorts.
You know... the thread was NOT about putting a gun in every room in the house including the bathroom... This thread WAS about IF I was going to store a gun in the bathroom (as OPPOSED to the bedroom or some other room), what factors should be taken into consideration... all under the guise of the bathroom being used as the SAFE ROOM, putting one more door between a BG and myself (1-front exterior entry door, 2-living quarters entry door (think 'duplex'), 3-master bedroom door, 4-bathroom door). The idea here is if startled in the middle of the night, retreat one room into the bathroom and then prep defensive measures rather than arm up in the bedroom itself. |

LOL seriously though...deadbolts with 4" screws work wonders, lock your doors and let the wife plant thorny rose bushes underneath first floor windows.

Next time I'll just make a request for info on what's best in a humid environment, given the large # of "children" trolling this site.

There were a few that were indeed serious answers and a bunch that were not. Closed.
