Best target load for a Walker
Getting ready to shoot my new Uberti Walker this weekend.
Do any of yall have a recommended target load for the Walker? I just dont see any detailed information available on moderate/accurate load for the Walker. And the recommended load in the "owners pamphlet" is certainly not what I would expect to work verywell overall. Seems 25gr. of fffg in the huge chambers is a might light. Ive read here that some folks even recommend using ffg powder. Any details folks? Thanks for the help.

40-45 gr fffg, lubed wad & .454 rb works really well. At least it did in my Uberti Walker last time I shot it. YMMV

IMO, every gun is different. And what powder you use is probably the biggest variable. It is probably most accurate at far less than max load. Somewhere around 25gr to 40gr, I would think. Try different lods, starting at the bottom end and work you way up till you find what it likes.

45 gr fffg Goex, lubed felt wad, .454 round ball is my most accurate load. However, at 5 gr either way the group is only about a half inch larger. This is shooting off a rest; with a two hand hold the difference is negligible.

My 2nd gen Colt Wlaker shoots best with 40grs of goex FFFg, grease cookie and a .457rb. I have only shot in 5gr changes. I really should do a test doing 1gr changes and shoot from a sand bag rest, try out some .454 rb's maybe.

Thanks for the info folks.
I started out with the 25gr. fffg minimum load and worked my way up.I settled back on the 40gr. fffg using a revolver wonder wad and a .454" round ball. The Walker seemed to like that load verywell.Anything over the 40gr. it seemed to get a bit wild in shot groups and the fouling increased. I have to say the Walker is a hoot to shoot.
