338 LM rifles?

I’m getting into shooting 338 Lapua Magnum.

I’m thinking of getting the Weatherby TacMark V in 338. Does anyone have experience with this gun?

I can’t tell from the pic, but is the barrel a heavy barrel?

I’m not a fan of bolt actions that have a pistol grip.

Anyone have any alternative recommendations on rifles?

I have none of the experience or answers you're really looking for. Weatherby has a few versions of the .338 LM some of them without the vertical pistol grip, also check out the M700 XCR in that cartridge. Here are several options for the .338 Lapua Magnum.

It listed as a Krieger (very good barrel) as Number 3 Contour.

That is more a medium sporter than a Varmint or Heavy barrel or a bull

Comparison wise, a featherweight (light as they go) is 2 lb.

The number three is 3 lbs. Thats a hunting barrel not even Varmint class.

Review I read said slightly sub MOA for 3 shots (hmmm) .

This is the one I would go for, both price and the stock is nice

Oh yea, I hate the Savage Accutrigger. I shot my friends Savage a few times, and I can’t stand the trigger. The blade really messes with my shot timing.

It’s disappointing to hear that the Weatherby barrel is a hunting barrel. I’m not a hunter. I’d like a bull/heavy barrel. I’ll go with another gun then.

I don’t see the barrel specs on any of those rifles on CTD. Which of those rifles has a heavy barrel? I don’t care if it has a pistol grip.

The Remington on the CTD page lists a varmint contour barrel. I think the problem is that many of these rifles will weigh in the neighborhood of 15-20 lbs by the time you add a scope, bipod, and ammunition. If you add a heavy or bull barrel you'll be looking at a 20lb bare rifle, and that starts to make portability an issue for many.

I decided to go with the Accuracy International AXMC.

It’s on the way, although I probably won’t shoot it until the F4 for the silencer is approved.

Wasn't that Tracking Point you bought in .338?

I never bought a Tracking Point. I test shot one and was not impressed.

Sorry to hear about the Acu Trigger. The blade works well for me, I just treat it as a sort of two state trigger.

They did come in 3 types, Hunting with a heavier pull,
Varmint down to 1.5 lobs and the Target on that Savage that does to 6 oz or some such.

I would love to get to try an AI for sure.

Weatherby big thing is hunting so I would see why they would not go HB on that gun. One slug from that beast should pretty much be it!

But then I am an odd ball. I transitioned to semi auto with a DA. Just like a revolver to me. Most of the time I shot them SA anyway (and aced a Practical Police course doing so)

I think I was lucky I got to operate a wide variety of machinery when I was young.

Many years latter, I got into a friends Jag that was right drive and had no issues driving it despite all the reversed setup.

I doubt I could do so now, but it was fun back then.
