Suggestions?

All,

As the title states I'm looking for suggestions. I'm looking for a new semi-auto with the following qualities. Compact, hammer fired, manual safety and capable of condition one, polymer. Safety must be frame mounted. From what I've seen, this combo is somewhat unusual. I've located the Taurus pt809, the CZ p07, the Eaa witness compact. Anything else spring to mind?

I guessing it also should be a 9 mm?

Probably will be, but doesn't have to be. Also just found the STI GP6. Looks interesting but I'd like something I could find a holster and night sites for.

Does it have to be polymer?

Aluminum would be ok, sometimes doesn't seem to be that much weight difference between the two. Not perceived difference anyway. Why, you have something in mind?

Have you considered the FNP-9?

That could very well be the direction I would go, if they still made the compace variant. Especially the usg model with the safety/decock. Baffled why they don't make a compact Fnp or Fnx. Full sized is I think a smidge large to conceal year round here in Ohio. Tossing the Aluminum option in opens up for the Canic c100, but that's on its second distributor in as many years. Like to have something with some backing to it.

Oops! I missed compact. I have the FNP-45 and they are huge.

Love the feel of the 45, but yeah it's a behemoth. I don't know, maybe the fnx wouldn't be too bad. Looks pretty thin. Have to look and see if they make one with a manual safety though.

How about the SIG P220 Carry SAO (single action only)?

Compact... not "sub-compact"? I call "compact" models "duty" size. Smaller than the full size combat style pistols like the M9, P226, 1911, but not CCW focused small...

Since you opened up to alloy frame... The CZ 75 PCR is a nice pistol. The CZ 75 based pistols tend to be great shooters with lower felt recoil than other pistols of similar size/weight... the design goes a long way into that.

The CZ p-07 is 1.7lb the PCR is 1.71... The P-07 is a bit heavy for a polymer, but the same thing can be said of the similar weighted Springfield XD pistols... Same applies to the PCR, not as light as some polymer pistols you can get but good recoil characteristics that are a combination of weight and design.

You can get some compact alloy framed 1911s as well.

The requirement for hammer fired and manual safety capable of condition one is the biggest selection limiting requirement.

If I remember correctly, the 220 holds only eight rounds. I love cz products, am quite familiar with their line up. I've had a p01 and a 75b in 40sw, had to sell both for various reasons not related to the performance of the weapons. If there were such a thing as a p01 or a pcr with a manual safety, which does not have their new omega trigger, I'd buy it and never look back. Doesn't exist. They have them on their czech site, just don't import them here. Makes me feel neglected.

And yes, compact is duty size to me as well, ie p01,pcr,226, etc.

Ah yes... thats right, the PCR is decock model... the regular steel framed compact has a safety. Its only a few ounces more... lots of people like them for carry.

I love my HK 45 C, carry it daily. Accurate and reliable to a fault.

Honestly, the best thing you could do is get to your local gunshop and check out all the pistols that interest you. The members here can't pick a handgun for you.

Good luck, get back to us with pics and a range report when you make a decision.

HK has several options which can be carried condition one, including the HK45c above. Other options would be the USP or USP Compact, and the P30s. All are polymer and hammer-fired. I carry a P2000sk daily, but this one doesn't have the option of a safety.

The standard cz 75 compact has a manual safety. Since you seem to have a CZ history already that might be a good starting point.

HK does make some fine weapons, somehow I'd forgotten about them. I'll check thm out. I've considered the 75 compact, but fear it may be heavyish. I know I need to check out area guhshops, but it's good to have options to ask about. No sizeable shops around here where I can even handle things like Hks or even Czs. Everyone carries Glocks, Smiths, Taurus, and a couple of other odd pieces if youre lucky.

I had the same issue, finding HKs very hard to find in my area. I ordered my HK45 without ever holding one, but had held an HK45c. I ordered my P2000sk without ever seeing one, but I had held a P2000. Haven't been disappointed yet.

You can always go checkout www.czfirearms.us for CZ info... many of those guys are on here as well, but going there and posting they will know its CZ related and know to pop in and give advice.

Several of the guys there love the compact. They can tell you if it is too heavy or not for your purpose/goals/needs.
