Steel Shot

Recently Iowa has opened a Dove Season. The Iowa DNR would like to make Steel Shot mandatory state wide, public and private lands. My question is that I have several shotguns made in the 50 and 60's and a nice older AYA side by side, would steel shot harm these guns?

most likely - many are not able to handle steel - you can check with NECG in New England - they are an AyA importer and can tell you for sure

Do they want steel shot or non toxic shot?

There is an non toxic shot, if made small enough, that can be shot in older shotguns.

It also depends on the choke. It should be ok to fire steel shot through the more open chokes.

Non-toxic shot (bismuth, etc) would also be worth investigating, yes.
