I was wondeing if anyone out there would be able to tell me what a Springfield M1 Garand chambered in .308 would be worth?

This rifle looks brand new and the guy who is selling it says that it hardly has been
fired.

There is not even a scratch on it.

Thanks for the responses.

Hi, Josh,

First question, is it from the government Springfield Armory and converted to .308 or is it from Springfield Armory, Inc., and made originally in that caliber?

Original GI M1s were made only for .30-'06.

Jim

Yeah, M1's were originally chambered for .30-06, but all you need is a new barrel and it's a .308. The .308s most likely will have little value for a collector because of the alteration, but as a shooter, they're fantastic.

When I mean little value for a collector, I mean there's no extra historical value to the rifle other than the tiny fact that it's a living piece of American history. I'm no expert, but a .308 garand should be worth the sum of it's parts.

garand price from CMP = $500 ($500 and up anywhere else)
new .308 barrel = $175 (approx, fulton's price)
smithing for new barrel = $100

My .308 garand, after all the work was done, cost me about $800, and I think I could get close to that amount.

Uh oh, now I see it is a SA Inc. rifle. I have no idea now.
