Smith M&P guns

What does everybody think about the S&W Military & Police line of handguns? I have been looking into them just out if curiousity (heck might even get one eventually) and I really like what I've been hearing as well as some of the features.

I have one made in the late 1940s. It's a great shooter and was well worth the money I paid for it.

The M&P line are, in my opinion, the best non-1911 pistols made today. By best I mean most suited for carry, most reliable. A step forward from the Glocks.

Their excellent firearms. I've owned several and never had an issue with any... On the pistols, I'm not a fan of the trigger but not so much to prevent me from buying more

What I currently use in competition. Very happy with them, so much so that I sold all of my competition G35s as well as the G23, G17, G34 and G27.

In the 9L and 9Pro (5" models) the accuracy may be poor. While I hear of guys with "good" accuracy, the ones I have shot were not acceptable. I put a KKM barrel in mine and am at 2" at 25 yards now. Was 10"+ at 25 yards after the first 1K rounds with the stock barrel. With Apex trigger parts, the triggers can be made superior to the best Glock triggers.

The XDm 5.25s are also very good with a similar trigger system, but not US made.

The FNS is also a very good new pistol and the 5" models are supposed to be out in a few months. The triggers have some real potential and I think they can be made better than a Glock, but maybe not as good as an M&P or XDm.

If I had to place a money bet for the pistol most likely to unseat the Glock, probably the M&P right now. I might change my mind in a year after the FNS gets more mileage on it.

I think the M&P is one of the foremost, if not THE foremost, service/defense type pistols on the market. The gun is very well designed nose to tail minus a mediocre trigger (that can be easily improved and is bring improved by Smith).

I was skeptical until I got trigger time. I'd trust one if these pistols in a heartbeat.

Just got my first M&P yesterday, a VTAC 40 S&W. Took it out today and was pleased.

Figured it would be pretty nice. Any gun with the S&W logo on it has earned that IMO.

OK, my bad, several people have pointed out that the current M&P line includes both revolvers and semi-autos, so I'm going to reopen this thread.

I had a M&P 9C and hated it, I couldnt hit the broad side of a barn with it. I even had a trigger job and night sights installed.

Having said that I think it was more the compact grip (w/finger ext) that gave me fits. But I do plan on giving a full size another chance when the C.O.R.E model comes out, mainly because I want a pistol I can put a MRDS on without costing me a ton. Sigs are my favorite but I dont pretend that the P229 is light.

For me, you can keep your Glocks and Sigs, and give me a Ruger any day of the week. That said, I just bought an M&P .22 for monthly practice, and I love it. Seems to work great so far; accurate and reliable enough. A big plus is that field stripping is a lot easier to accomplish on this gun than it is with the Ruger 22/45....no rubber mallets involved!

I've been in the hunt for awhile. It's got the most comfortable grip(s)/ergos of any I've tried and what I am leaning toward. SR9/C close second.

I've got an M&P9C, have had it for a while. Probably somewhere around 500 rounds down the tube.

Looking to get an APEX carry kit trigger upgrade. The trigger is a little meh, but I am spoiled by Timneys in my rifles.

I am issued a M&P 9mm, which is a great gun. Accurate, reliable, rugged. Today, a coworker brought in her brand new, unfired M&P Shield 9mm, which I got to fondle and drool over.

Almost identical in size to my Interarms Walther PPK/S, except, the Shield is a 9mm, instead of a .380. Now I want one too!!!!

The white dot cracked and half fell out of the stock front sight on my M&P .40 fullsize. Apparently it is a common occurence. I replaced the sights (after some experimentation) with Trijicon aftermarket sights which I like better then the stock M&P night sights also made by Trijicon.

I also added an Apex Tactical RAM to give the trigger a tactile reset.

After the above mods I really like the M&P I am using it as my carry gun and at night attach a TLR-1s to it and it is my nightstand gun.
