Beretta 92 Steel I

I just bought this Beretta 92 steel I today, built 2010. Unlike most 92s, the safety is frame mounted and the frame is carbon steel rather than alloy, with a nickel alloy finish, so it’s a heavy gun.

So much so that the original owner, a lady, didn’t like the heft at all. The LGS bought it back from her, then put it on the rentals rotation for their range, where it had little success. I think most walk-ins who rent guns are youngsters who are more interested in modern plastic fantastic and rails.

Well her loss, my gain for a mere $ 1000 with case, lock and manual

And it’s a great shooter too, the first ten shots at 25 meters

It makes a great pair with the 92 combat

Very nice

I actually feel the Steel I is the finest 92 Beretta ever built. Speaking of steel, $1000 is definitely a steal.

Here's one of mine.

Not sure if you know or not, but the Steel I was offered DA/SA like yours, or SAO.

I've got one of each, the SAO being on the left.

Very nice 92 Combat also, by the way.

I've got one of those along with a 92 Competition on the right.

Nice gun.

A somewhat lesser-known fact is that the very first models of the Beretta 92 had frame-mounted safeties, they were merely "updated" with slide-mounted safeties because that was the popular orientation for safety levers at the time for some reason.
The Taurus PT92 has a frame-mounted safety as well, because it was designed based on the blueprints of the original Beretta 92 they obtained when they purchased a factory complete with everything inside once Beretta's contract with the Brazilian Military was concluded.

Beretta is once again offering an all-steel variant of the 92 Series with a frame-mounted safety known as the 92X, which is designed for Competition Shooting, and runs around $1000.

Yes and an even lesser known fact than that is that the very first models had a stepped down slide, like the 1977 model on the left. By 1978 (on the right), it was gone.

Beautiful gun

I had forgotten that the 92 Steel had the 'Brigadier' slide. Neat gun. I had a chance to buy one years ago, but the grip didn't feel right to me so I passed on the deal.

I never knew these existed!

$1000 seems like a lot for a rental gun, but as you said it’s probably in great shape and worth more than that to the right buyer. If they can even find one to buy!

I guess one could always settle on the Taurus. But nothing beats an Actual Beretta with a frame mounted safety, let alone one with a steel frame!

I’ll trade you an all steel CZ for it! Hah!

Dang, bac1023 and Classic12, either of your places is the one I want for a play date! Maybe the choice would go to Classic12 'cause I could convince my wife we were going to Switzerland for the chocolate...

Same here, mellow_c. Beautiful pistol and I love that frame mounted safety.

Great pick up. I would have jumped on that for the price, too. I seldom see them, and never for that price. Enjoy the heck out of that - you done good!

A dealer showed me his years ago, I immediately picked up on a very faint pinkish tint to the plating. I asked if it was stainless and he said it was plated carbon alloy (Probably 4140 or similar), the only gun I've ever seen like that, so subdued was the pink that I wasn't sure I was seeing it until he said so too.
