Waited three months and still waiting - how much longer?

I sent my payment, passport photos, fingerprints, sherrif's signature, and paperwork in triplicate out to my Class 3 dealer three months ago for my .223 silencer and I'm still waiting! How much longer, any ideas? The wait is driving me CRAZY.

at 3 months from when your check to the ATF for the tax clears your bank then you should check on it. Call the ATF NFA branch at 304 616 4500 and give them your serial number, they will be able to do a status check on it. Most likely thier answer will be pending. Which means it's in the system and you wait some more.

Of course this assumes your dealer sent the paperwork in and that your dealer checked the box on the form 4 that gave permission for you to check on the transfer status. If not then your dealer will be the only one who can check it.

If and paperwork means form to certify you as a US citizen then good, if never did those you will get a reject letter.

There is not need for anything in triplicate, both forms go into the ATF they keep one return one to you, nothing is triplicate.

I can understand your frustration in the wait, but I'm a bit more pragmatic about it. Between the anticiaption, then the reality of a new administration that is clearly not pro-gun (legal), I'm sure BATF is besieged with applications, in addition to their other duties. I would expect increasing delays, as the near panic that has been evident in gun and ammunition sales extends to NFA items.

I'm at 2 1/2 months; they cashed my check so I know I'm in the cue somewhere.

I guess it’s just a matter of perspective; I am just performing my patriotic duty and trying to boost the economy.

Your examiner is assigned by name and some are more efficient than others My last form 1’s (M) took 4 months, my last form 4’s (R) took 3 months. Most recent took a month and a half to go pending, so I expect about the same turnaround.

Took me 76 days door to door.

That was filed in October, went pending the 31st of October, and stamp was issued Dec. 11.

It should be done soon.

Just make sure that's legal in CO. Many states do not allow hunting with a suppressor.

My last stamp took a really long time. I don't know exactly how long, but the time frame is longer than it was a year ago, but not as long as it was 5-6 years ago.

My last NFA item was a Serbu Super Shorty AOW. I had been wanting one for several years. Finally I saw one for sale on line from a private party in Virginia. I told the guy I would buy it some time in March of 2008. I actually took it home the first week of January 2009. That isn't the time it took to get back my Form 4, that includes the time it took my money to get to him. The time it took to transfer the gun from him to my dealer. The time it took for him to send the gun to my dealer. The time it took my dealer to let me know he had it. Then the time it took my Form 4 to process.
Believe it or not, that is about half as long as it took to get my first two suppressors.

The NFA game takes extreme patience.

I'm not sure what you meant by that, but there is a big difference between MA and CA. MA laws suck, but at least I can still go out and buy EBR's, .50BMG and MGs; none of which are legal to get now in CA.

Has your check cashed? Most class III dealers are a special breed and you need to really stay on them to get your stuff out. I've had dealers PROMISE AND SWEAR they were going to mail my paperwork off the next day only to sit on it for a month and only mail after I call them.

From then on, I absolutely positively mail and prepare all the paperwork myself. All the dealer has to do for me is sign it.

Everytime some antigun joker is elected, gun sales soar and the ATF is swamped with new tax stamp applications. This time that joker is Obama. It just takes time.

Actually, NFA approvals are still humming along at about 8 weeks right now. Hasn't really slowed down at all.
