A brand new aquisition

I just purchased a brand new Winchester 1300 defender 12 gauge 18" W/ pistol grip for home defense. Was it a good buy? I paid $300.00

I see a few on gunbroker.com for $250 or so. But after you add shipping & a transfer fee you're probably at $300 or a little more.

The shotgun is fine. There's lots of happy 1300 owners out there.

The PG, though, works better in the movies than in real life. Shooting a couple rounds with it will convince you PDQ. Get a real stock and fit it to you or to the smallest shooter in your home if there's more than one possible operator.

And shoot it plenty. Shotguns need regular exercise to work.

Congratulations on your new shotgun, may it give you many years of service.

By all means! Too many folks get a HD gun, shoot it once or twice and that's it.

Thanks for all the replies. I am trained on the Remington 870p snd the recoil is harsh but managable. I have never fired a shotgun without a stock. Will it hurt my hand or fire wildy?

Yes. It can hurt your hand and not hit your target.

FYI, Jailer, in 1981 my duties for MD DOC included teaching about 300 new COs to shoot 870s equipped with folding stocks from the hip. It was a tough summer.

G*d Bless all good COs....
