Question . When sizing 45ACP cases
I'm sizing 45ACP cases with a RCBS Carbide die , the die is set up with the die touching the she'll holder without a can over. Cases are sizing fine , checked in a case gage . I backed out the die one an one half a turn , sizes the case half way down , enough to hold the hole bullet. The case checks fine in the case gage. Is this OK or am I missing something. I shoot bench rest 308 cal. I don't oversize , is it the same with a straight wall case.

Better to size it all the way, your concern here is reliability so full sizing for straight walled pistol cases is important to prevent a malfunction in a semi auto pistol. Unlike rifle reloading partial sizing will not make the case fit your chamber better nor is resizing going to wear the brass out.

Some handgun cases are unsupported at the base (think Glock .40) and get a fairly good bulge at the base after firing... it's best to full-length resize all your straight-wall cases, and not even just in automatics. I have some .45 brass that's probably been loaded 20 times or more that I'm still loading without problems.
