Slugging a barrel
I want to slug my 9 mm, 44 caliber and 45 caliber guns. The 9 MM and 45 caliber are sig pistols. The 44 caliber is a S & W revolver.
My problem is that the lead balls recommended come in large quantities of 100. I hate to buy 100 balls for each caliber. Is there one ball size I can use to slug all 3 barrels? I do not have any lead bullets yet to use for slugging. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Last edited by Plaz; May 26, 2010 at 02:01 AM. |

The best place to look would be the fishing section of a sporting goods store. Lead sinkers are usually pure soft lead. There is quite a size difference between 9mm and 45--you'll need 2 sized. One in the 3/8 diameter range and another in the 1/2 inch range. Take your calipers with you when you go.

The easiest way get a piece of dry hard wood, drill holes slightly over the bore Diameter of each gun threw the board, clamp this to a backing plate, pour pure lead into the holes, a ½ inch board works best. Just remember, oil the bore and slug up before you slug the barrels.
