Heat Shield Dilema
I just picked up my first shotgun, a Mossberg 500. It has a 18.5 barrel with a heat shield and a 5 shot magazine, and this is creating a problem. I want to install a light on it, but all the mounts I've seen seem to install right where the heat shield is bolted on. I'd like to keep the heat shield on, so are there any suggestions for a mount and a light? Budget minded, so please keep that in mind with the suggestions.

My advice, lose the heat shield. A light is much more important. Heat sheilds have their place on a combat weapon. For house defense, not so much. Also be advised it takes a really solid mount to keep a 12 gauge from kicking off attached accessories. (consider the poor light bulb)

Just for looks... which I think takes away from it anyways. Take it off and put something useful on there.

Take it off of there. How hot do you think it will get from a whole 5rds?

This seems to be the best solution although pricey, otherwise loose the shield.

ehh... flashlights are overrated IMHO. One more thing to screw with and they give the perp something to shoot back at.

It takes a lot to truly NEED a heat shield. Barrels can get pretty hot, but you won't realistically do that unless you are in combat. If you were in combat, a pump shotgun probably isn't want you really want.
Just take off the heat shield.

......but it looks so cool....and all the tactical guys have'em..... (just kidding) Personally I would never put a light on a weapon either. Flares and flash bangs are so much more fun.

A remote controller for your home lighting is less costly than an elaborate gun light and can be used as an everyday convenience.
