Wanting to install a surefire Tac-light on the 590, the installation instructions call for grinding down the bayonet lug .50". Is this really necessary ? Will the dremel work. ?

Yeah, that bayonet lug has to go if you want to use that surefire light. I used a dremel to remove mine.

You sound like the guy I need to talk to. The light housing seems to bind against the bottom of the barrel. When cycling the action rearward the last half of travel a binding occurs. When I remove the barrel the problem dissaperes, as well as when I reinstall the factory forearm. Is it the norm to have to modify the surefire H23 housing.

Maybe Surefire could develop a combo light/bayonet?

Ewok, now there is an idea. No blade but maybe a mount that attaches to the flashlite (of various manufactures) and clips onto the bayonet lug/mag cap.

Just noticed that the August special at VangComp - www.vangcomp.com - is 590A1, parkerized, ghost-ring sights, side-saddle installed, Surefire 623A01 installed, for $735.

Would this combo unit be something like a light saber?
