k98k barrel markings

Got this from my cousin, his dad's rifle which was sporterized in the '50s or '60s.
Most of the markings have been polished off of the metal that's above the wood, but there are some markings concealed by the stock; does anyone know what they signify?
The small circular marks are the letter S in a circle.

Runs off at the mouth about anything 1911 related on this site and half the time is flat out wrong.
