New-to-me Uberti 1866

Well, I finally sprung for a Uberti 1866 (24" rifle version) recently listed on a online auction. This is my first firearm chambered in 45 Colt. Haven't received the rifle yet, so I'm still like a kid waitin' for Christmas

I've read the stuff about 44wcf being better for BP (less blowback and cleaner) but I plan to use the following load based on components/dies (Lee) I already own: 30-35 grains of Goex 3f or Goex CT in Starline brass under the Lee 255gr. RNFP with a hefty crimp, lubed with beeswax/crisco/lanolin.

Does that sound about right? Should I use magnum primers or not? In smokeless, I've have 50 rnds of that same boolit loaded with 8 grains of Unique which I plan to use initially. But this gun will primarily be fed BP

I'm just wanting some ideas/advice from some of you 45 colt fans, while I wait on my new-to-me rifle to arrive.

BP Loads

I've always used magnum primers for BP cartridge loading and never had any problems.

Good luck with your '66. Please do post some pics and tell us about your first range trip.

Magnum primers are usable but not necessary.
