how much space is needed

About how much space needs to be devoted to an effective and safe handloading area? Our water heater is in a closet in the garage so that would probably not be the best place to set up and other than that, space is rather limited in my room.

First it doesn't have to be 'devoted to', it can be portable. A good fold up bench would work fine, Since good safe practice means you only have one bullet , powder and primer and case type on the bench at one time a 24"x24" top is all you need to hold the press and components.A sturdy bench that will not wobble is needed as is good lighting.Anything more than than is luxury !
