I get 9mm 125 gr. Round Nose Premium cast bullets as well as others for 65.00 per 1000 at www.pennbullets.com
Bob can ship up to 3800 of these in the flat rate box for 10 bucks plus insurance. Best cast you will ever use. |

I determined the exact same thing this past weekend.
I sat down and figured out that even with purchased lead I could make my own bullets for 50% cheaper than buying them. With making 124 gr. lead round nose bullets I would pay for my equipment after I made 1500 bullets. That's cheap considering I will cast for 9mm, 45 acp, 41 mag., and 45-70 Government. I figured the monetary savings would be around $600 per year given my present shooting habits.

Before you buy any mold, you need to slug your bore. Take a lead sinker from the fishing department, grease the barrel and sinker, tap it through with a wood or fiberglass rod. Measure across the widest part and get back to us.
I say this because I was having a HECK of a time with my CZ and carbine. Everything tumbled with zero accuracy. Turns out the CZ likes a boolit at .003 over bore diameter, so I bought the Lee 358-125-RF mold and sized it to .358 (drops at .362). You also need to play with hardness and charges. I got better accuracy by water dropping them, along with a mid to light charge. Last edited by chris in va; June 8, 2010 at 08:40 PM. |

castboolits.gunloads.com Greatest casting resource ever.
I use the Lee 124TL round nose .356 mould, drops at .360, so I have two Lee push through sizers, one for .356 for 9mm use, and one for .358 for 38Spl use. Costs me about $.25 to cast for an hour or two. |

Do you like the Lee Lube & Size setup?
I'm thinking of getting one, and using the Lyman Orange to tumble lube my bullets.

As for the Lee setup, it's a bit of a pain to use. Cast the boolits, sprinkle some ALOX/mineral spirits, tumble...let dry under a fan for a couple hours, size with the Lee die, TUMBLE LUBE AGAIN...let dry. But it's cheap and I'm not looking to spend hundreds of dollars on more equipment. |
