748 in a 222

Anyone tried ww 748 and 40 gr hornadys in a 222????

Too slow for that bullet weight. Even 223 users only use it for heavy target bullets that are too long for a 14" .222 twist to stabilize. Using it will likely create secondary pressure bumps down the tube that can gradually ring your barrel. Better to get something with more appropriate burn rate for the chambering and bullet weight. You can do a lot worse than good old IMR4198 in that cartridge.

If IMR would manufacture IMR4198 with kernels about 1/4 as long, I would use nothing else in a couple of my rifles. That powder is a pain in the posterior to meter. It bridges, variance between charges is + 0.2 grains---sometimes even worse. This is one of the mysteries of powder manufacture I will never understand.
