In ordinary applications, none.
In detail, the 9mm NATO is loaded to miltary specifications suitable to our friends in Europe who are used to the USA supplying them with guns and ammunition in any protracted conflict like WW I and WW II. This makes it a somewhat hotter round than what you get under the generic 9mm Luger label on American made ammunition. |

Isn't the "NATO" round very close to what is typically labeled "+P"?

Yup, they are the same dimensionally on the outside. NATO cases tend to be a bit thicker on the inside, but the difference generally is not a problem. The NATO ammo is generally loaded to higher pressures, what would be considered +P in the US, than standard US 9mm Luger.

Now, ask why did we adobt the 9mm for our military?
Answer; To placate Europeans, few of whom could handle the .45 ACP. They didn't need to actually, European cops and military had found that their opponents would drop and call for their mommies when nicked with the 9mm. It has been proven that Middle-eastern fanatics don't. |

9mm (vs .45)
To tell you the truth, I don't find the .45acp round to be anymore difficult to handle than the 9mm. It's a big but slow moving projectile as opposed to a smaller faster projectile. And I shoot one handed. I guess I must be missing something.
Actually some Europeans have been shooting the 9mm since what 1908? And the 1911 went into service when? |
