22 rimfire versions of military type rifles

i was wondering if anyone owns any 22 rimfire versions of military type rifles/carbines? i never knew there were so many rimfire versions available. i have found out that there are dedicated rimfire versions of ar's, ak's, mp5's, m1 carbines and i am sure there must be others. with the price of ammo it would seem the .22 caliber versions of these weapons would be a practical and inexpensive way to pratice and also a whole lot of fun. so does anyone here own any of these 22 caliber versions? how about a little review, maybe a picture and aprox cost, and brand recomendations? thanks.

i favor the S&W M&P 15-22 as a complete rifle, if one has an AR-15 type rifle/carbine, i recommend the Tac-Sol upper, i have both, they are reliable, fun to shoot and top of the line quality.

I currently own 3. The S&W M&P 15-22, the Umarex Colt M4 and the ISSC SCAR. Also, I have an ATI STG 44 on order. The attraction is obvious. All the fun of shooting without most of the expense. You can have a full afternoon of shooting with your family for less than $50.

I have a S&W M&P 15-22 and its a lot of fun.

Bulk walmart ammo is touch and go, CCI Stingers cycle every time but of course cost more.

as you can tell im not waiting for any aftermarket manufacturers to make a rimfire versions for us .22LR folks so i took it upon myself to DIY using gutted airsoft stocks as "dress up kits". closest thing to a 1:1 scale version of the real centerfire.

i know i cant get or afford to buy the real centerfire versions so i made these .22 conversions using gutted airsoft stocks. the WWII versions im making are parts kits will be rewelded and bolted back up

fun, cheap plinkers. nothing more.

for some reason i still dont own the .22 versions of the HK MP5, SIG552, STG44. it will always be there for me to buy in the future.

i own a AR15 and i just plan to get a .22 CMMG conversion kit.

Can anyone give some firsthand experience (review) comparing some of these commercially available .22's? I'm specifically interested in the HK (Umarex) MP5, ISSC MK22 (Scar), or Sig 522.

Could you elaborate more on how you built those awesome .22's? I would be interested in doing something like that myself dependent upon labor involved and cost.

I go back a little further with a miniature Mauser M 98, made in the 1930s. Nicely made , very accurate, single shot.

Mine is the plain version but there was a target version ,rare and very expensive.

I own a Sig 522 and it is an excellent shooter. I also own a CMMG AR15 M4 style dedicated .22LR which functions flawlessly and is a good shooter.

If you are looking for the feel and weight of your .223/5.56 AR, the top choice for me is the Nordic. http://shop.nordiccomp.com/NC22_c6.htm

These upper use Black Dog magazines and go right onto your AR-15 lower. They are utterly reliable which is a huge benefit in the training realm. Accuracy is good, but they are not tack-drivers. I know that TacSol recently redid their uppers of the same type and the reports are that they have improved.

A large number of the top tier 3Gun competitors use these for training.

A friend bought a new copy of the (WW2) Sturmgewehr in .22 LR.
I have no idea how well it operates.

It's more than a coincidence that the friend who bought barely it escaped East Germany (got shot at) a few years before the wall came down.

The SIG of New Hampshire-made SIG522 is probably the best purpose-built .22 "EBR" on planet earth. Maybe the galaxy.

You could take it to war it is THAT good.

Once you handle, shoot one - nothing compares. The gold standard.

The ONLY downside is that they were sold without correct iron-sights; the ones that some are shipped with these days are clearly an afterthought and not "designed in", so get used to using an optic of some kind.

I can only wish that ALL .22 "EBRs" were as good.
