I’ve blacked out rear sights on several of my pistols just with a simple sharpie. I only buy aftermarket sights that have a blacked out rear by design, including Trijicon HDs. 3-dot sights don’t make a lot of sense for several reasons.

The vast majority of my fighting guns have plain black rears or the rear dots filled in with black Testors paint. Three dots confuse the eyes and keep you from focusing on the front sight, which is where speed and accuracy comes from.

So I did black out my rear sight and have been shooting really well...at least for my skill level. I am adding a Harrison thumb safety, waiting to get it back from the smith, so tonight I decided to try a rental AR-15 and had a blast.

The rear sight on all my pistols are solid black. Rear sights with dots, posts, U, etc., I just can't shoot accurately. My eyes tend to shift focus from front sight to back. That's not a good thing. A dot or Gip on the front sight, solid black for the rear.
