coated vs noncoated bullets?

coated vs noncoated bullets?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok so I am in the beginning stages of developing a new load for my new toy, a savage 10fcp-k in 308, my question is. I have used sierra match king bullets in 168 gr for years and had excellent success with them, so that being said has anyone had experience with moly-coated bullets, is their an advantage over non coated? Also what are the thoughts on going to a 175- 180 gr match bullet my rifle is a 1 in 10 twist 24" barrell. thanx for any input folks

Sierra matchking

I am using 168gr. sierra matchking bullets in my remington vls 308. With varget powder, fed. 210m primers. If I do my part this will shoot 1 hole 5 shot groups at 100 yards. I forgot to mention I am using nosler trimmed 1 time fired brass. This was a factory produced gun and the only thing I did was free float the barrel. I have used 150gr. bal silvertips in my 7mm with very good accuracy but these are lubalux coated. The only thing I have found it takes a few shots to coat the lands enough to shoot good groups but there again that could be my gun. Hope this helps.

so far from what I have found out thru research, it does not seem there is a big advantage to moly over non moly. So for the time I will stick with the sierra match kings and see if they perform as good as in my 30-06

Forget the Moly. We still do it for one dedicated rifle that requires it and its a rather involved and dirty process, but most all of us now use hBN (Hexagonal Boron Nitride) impact coated projectiles, and they do make very big difference to POI and barrel life... as in two to three times more barrel life.
