.40 2/1/2" Sharps Straight (.40-70). This is for an original Remington 32" 1/2 oct. brl. Mid-range match rifle, with British proofs..left factory in 1878-79' period. Anyway, I am working up du-plex loads, to try & clean up bore a bit. I am using both IMR 4759 & IMR PB smokeless next to primer..charges are from 2.0gr. to 5.0gr.
1. weigh out smokeless charge & drop in case, 2. weigh out Swiss 1 1/2 FG ( 60 to 70gr.) & slowly pour thru 36" brass drop tube. 3. thumb press .05" dental wax wad & push down onto powder. 4. press case mouth thru 1/8" SPG grease cookie. 5. thumb press another dental wax wad & push onto cookie. 6. start .032" veg. fiber wad in case mouth. 7. start Brooks .40-350gr. Postal bullet in case. 8. seat bullet to proper depth. Like I said, it's a bit complicated..took me most of an afternoon to load 25 differen't samples. |

I finished up about 110 220 Swift loads and did about 150 of 223. But...dmickey...you really are going to load 1100 rounds for your 223? Wow! Makes me tired just thinking about it. Why so much ammo? Zombie problem?

Loaded another box of 9mm last night, 124gr Speer Gold Dot under 5.7-5.9gr Unique (that's what the measure throws). I bought 1000 bullets, I'd say I've got ~400 left.

I recently bought a very nice Savage 219 in .22 Hornet, so today I'm loading 200 rounds with Sierra 40 gr HP bullets on top of 9.7 gr of 2400, and I'm gonna see if I can reduce the population of ground squirrels around here. Also have some 45 gr but I'll work on those next week.

Tumbling a whole bunch of 9mm brass from last trip to the range. Still working up a load “for a new to me bullet” for 45ACP. Looking for that combination that just makes me drool. As always I need more 125g JHP over 17.5g of 2400 for the .357Mag, going to have to start loading them in bulk so I don’t run out so often.

100 All new .357
Reloaded 48 .30-06 to fill a Garand bandolier Pulled 20 HE .308 to reload into 20 more .30-06...and did reloaded those 20 .308 with tracers. Think I might head back upstairs and see if I can scrounge up the goodies for a 20 box of .270s. I never get tired of this. ________________________________________ It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it NRA lifer |

Two nights ago I loaded my first 13 rounds of 45-70, getting ready for bear season August 10th. I used Starline brass, WLR primers, and loaded 3 shot groups with 57.0gr, 57.6gr, 58.2gr, and 58.8 gr of IMR 8208 XBR. Loaded one fouler at 56.0gr. They all shot minute of bear at 100 yards but I think I've settled on the 58.2gr load, it shot ~1.5" at 100 yards. I tell you what, shooting the 45-70 on the bench without a lead-sled is pretty punishing. I had entertained the idea of working up to 61.0gr and seeing what kind of accuracy I can get but I think 1.5" is good enough
I also resized, tumbled and primed 50 pieces of 50 Beowulf brass last night.

45 and 44 mag
Went to the range today and tried out some midrange 44mag in the 8in. Dan Wesson, 10.7 gr Unique over 215gr SWC. Pretty moderate load but fun.
Also fired some 45 200gr SWC using 5gr. Bullseye, OAL 1.255 that shot very well in the Glock21 and Colt Compact45. When I use an OAL of 1.225 it does not feed reliably as the lead step is seated right to the edge of the brass. Good fun. |

Loaded up 21 rounds of 45-70 for the upcoming bear hunt. Gonna go shoot a few Friday for a little more practice. Powdered with 58.2gr IMR 8208 XBR:
Each cartridge was hand crafted with love : All boxed up, it's a beautiful thing
