AR mount

I am planning on probably getting a 1-6X32 optic for my AR. Probably something like the Vortex Strike Eagle, Primary Arms, or a Burris MTAC. I don't really need a QD mount, but something static. I was thinking of going the route of the Aero lightweight.

Question is, which mount would you recommend for proper eye relief? The extended:

Or the SPR:

https://www.amazon.com/ULTRALIGHT-30.../dp/B00JVTD4EK

Thanks.

Depends a lot on the particular scope you will be using.

The extended should work with most low power variables. It is a bit stronger as well.

The aero is a good mount, but it does trade durability for lighter weight. So keep that in mind...

Other options are...

Burris PEPR
SWFA
Primary Arms

All around the $50-60 price range..

Extended. I have that one. It's very nice. The other is a bit of overkill.

You can move the mount back and forth on the rail if needed. But you really won't need to. Just mount it forward on the upper receiver.

I have also been very impressed with this one. Great price. Rock solid. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I just use common rings of proper height. Never had an eye relief or fitment problem with that set-up.

If you shoot nose-to-charging handle with the stock mostly collapsed then the SPR mount is nice because it cantilevers the scope more forward to get the proper eye-relief. Otherwise either one will usually work with a 1-6x.

I gotta say... I'm not a fan of the "rings" on those... I would prefer a more conventional ring setup.

And just an fyi, you have shown mounts in 1" and 30mm.

Primary Arms has decent deals regularly... like this..

Or..

Doesn't matter what you use on a short barreled, short stock, 'Tacti-Cool' ammo waster...
Most guys don't know how to mount them/optic anyway so it doesn't matter.
'Eye Relief' is determined by the optic you are using.
You adjust for that pre-determined eye relief by moving the optic closer or further from your eye WHILE YOU MAINTAIN PROPER CHEEK WELD & SHOOTING GRIP/STANCE.

I've seen/tried a lot of the 1 piece mounts, and for my money it's ArmaLite.

I don't consider how it 'Looks' or how much it weighs...
What I consider is FUNCTION.

Most of the knock-offs use mount claw screws to keep the mount from sliding forward/backward.
I perfer one with a square lug that fits snugly into the picatinny rail slots.

The longer the foot print off the clamps on the picatinny rail, the better it protects the picatinny rail and the better chance you have of repeating zero when it's removed/reinstalled.

Anything cantilevered is unsupported.
Keep the cantilevered ring distance SHORT, make sure the arm is strong!
This is no place to worry about weight or looks.

Since my rifles go hunting, I perfer a beefier mount/rings. Little undercut risers will bend.
Since these are aluminum, weight is little concern.
I like a level mounted on the tube or rings to correct rifle cant at a glance, some of these mounts allow enough material to drill/tap for accessories like levels.

KEEP IN MIND, A little extra 'Meat' allows you to adjust the optics centerline off the bore a little with simple machining.
Exactly ZERO mounts/ring height will exactly fit every shooter, so some adjustment room to make the rifle fit YOUR face/stance is always a good thing...
If you have to raise your cheek off the stock, or cock your face down to find centerline of the optic, you are screwing yourself...

The spread between rings counts! The wider spaced the more they support optics tube ends that can & will get banged around. Stright tubes make for more accurate shooting...

Keep in mind that a 1/2" off gives a prairie dog a whole new lease on life, and field hunting is hard on everything, including optics/mounts.
This is one place I wouldn't throw down weight or 'Looks' restrictions and go with a little overbuilt.

Stupid price because of the name brand,
About 3/8" 'Claws' on one side of picatinny rail, easy to dislodge & doesn't protect your expensive to replace upper receiver,
Stupid long/thin cantilever for one ring, easy to bend/break.

https://www.brownells.com/optics-mou...nt=749-012-017

While it protects both sides of the picatinny rail, the foot print is short, again, stupid long/thin cantilever for the ring support.

https://ads.midwayusa.com/product/95...hoCK7AQAvD_BwE

Beefy mount with proper recoil lug, beefy/short cantilever, beefy rings, long footprint that protects picatinny rail, the rings could be spaced farther apart, but not even ArmaLite does everything...
I perfer wide rings/caps with at least 4 screws per cap. This will accept 6 screws pretty easily if you had heavy/hard recoil issues...
It's not 'Tacti-Cool', it actually is combat proven and I've not bent/knocked one loose in more than 20 years of brush busting hunts...
I have had all the issues I brought up with other, less heavy built mounts.

I like these for the price. Good basic scope mount.
