Shipping powder? Which carrier, regulations
Hi all, have a guy on another forum who wants me to ship a bottle of powder to him.
I know that powder is subject to a $25 hazmat fee, and ORM-d etc. What carriers can i use, do I need a properly marked box, etc or just not worry about it? Thanks,

Powder is not ORMD. (loaded ammo and some toxic household chemicals are ORMD)

You have to become HazMat certified which requires training and testing. Training is provided by the hazmat employer or other public or private sources. Every 3 years, you have to do it all over again and it cost several hundred dollars.

I hope that it's a powder that's difficult to find - it's really cost prohibitive for such a small amount.

Package it into shotgun shells and it becomes ORM-D. Recipient can cut them open to get the powder. (just thinking outside the box here)

Legally, a private citizen cannot ship anything hazardous (meaning powder or primers). In order to ship hazmat you have to have specialized training and be certified in that training, and be registered and certified by the carrier. That's really not practical for anyone other than a volume business customer. So, short answer is, you cannot legally ship powder or primers.
Oh yeah, just in case you are thinking of doing that anyway, don't. The penalty is federal prosecution by DHS and I don't think you want to go that route. |

Not worth the cost for small amounts!
ORM-D is for loaded ammo and other chemicals not powder.

If you do decide to ship powder and get caught, the Government lumps you into the "Uni-Bomber" class...no questions asked...

If you do not have Haz Mat Contract with Speedy, FedEx, or UPS and the required CFR 49 training cert, you can not ship powder period. And, to get caught well....best not. Hell, the Haz Mat charge costs as much as #1 of powder this is no win situation.
