what have you fired vs what you bought
Was reading the thread relating to buying calibers you never fired. What have you fired vs what have you decided to buy. didnt realize I had fired so many calibers,...
To clarify, since there seems to be some confusion. What calibers did you shoot and after shooting decided you needed to add to your collection or decided you could do without.... 17hmr, bought, love 22lr, bought 22mag, bought 223, bought, love 270, no 30 carbine, bought and sold 30-06, bought 300 win mag, no 32acp, no but hope to eventually 380, yes, bought and sold 9mm, yes 38/357 mag, bought 44spl/mag, no but hope to eventually 45acp, bought 45LC, no 50ae, no but hope to eventually 410ga, no 16ga, no 20ga, bought 12ga, bought

Scope of interest might be helpful.
Is this an "ever in your life" or "last year"? I can list 20mm .50 BMG 105mm and a couple of others as "fired" but never bought as Uncle Sam was footing the bill. And are we talking cartridges or weapons? I have inherited rifles and ammo so never bought either (though reload for them). 5.7x28, no .357 Herret, no 12ga, no .44-40, no really don't remember all the "here try this" over the past 50 years that I may have fired.

The only gun I've ever owned that I didn't fire was a 270. I bought it at a good price from a guy who tried to pawn it. I was in the shop when he came in needing $200 for rent money ASAP. The pawnshop wouldn't loan him the money, nor buy it from him. I offered $200 and traded it at a gun show the next day. A guy allowed me $300 for it on trade for something I wanted.
I've shot, but did not own the following: 375 H&H 416 Rigby 454 Casull 8mm Rem mag 410 I've owned and fired: 22 RF 22 Magnum 223/5.56 243 6.5 CM 7mm Rem mag 280 30-06 30-30 308 7.62X39 300 WM 300 WSM 338/06 35 Rem 35 Whelen 357 Mag 38 Special 9mmX18 Makarov 380 9mmX19 Luger 40 S&W 10mm 44 Mag 44 Special 45 ACP 45 Colt 45-70 20ga 16ga 12 ga.

Oh boy,,,well, here goes (and entirely off the top of my head, so I'll probably miss a few...
I've been fortunate enough to have shot a LOT of things over the years, some of which I went on to buy, some of them I got to shoot after I bought them, and some of them I never bought... what?
Is the OP referring to buying ammo for guns he does not own? If so that's part of the problem right now! Hope not. There are guys in my area buying ANY ammo they find, reselling and asking ridiculous prices........and getting it.
Fifteen yrs or so ago, I passed up a heck of deal on .22 Hornet ammo...didn't own a Hornet, nor the extra funds (at the time) to get one. I still kick myself over that one. I don't think I've ever bought a gun and not fired it......eventually, and usually very soon. I'm not going to bother with a list, but here's one you won't see listed often that I've shot.......and still own the rifle and 1500 rds 5mm rimfire magnum, ....the best hot rimfire |

Well, I bought a Springfield M1A NM in 1988. Have yet to fire it. Still has the trigger tags attached.
Also, bought a newly rebuilt Garand in 2012. Never fired that one, either. Also, bought a CZ 550-FS in 2016. Never fired it.... That’s it. Bayou

I edited my earlier post to show which ones I still have and which ones I've let go. Some of what I've let go wasn't because I was unhappy with it, but something excess to my needs and that someone else wanted more.

reread
Hey Shadow9,
Just reread your original post and I get it.....I was a bit accusatory, sorry 'bout that. I was in a hunt club, and one of the really popular cartridges was the Rem 7mm Mag. There were multiple ROW's and green plots, and longish shots (in those days that meant 400 yds) were entirely possible, and the 7mm mag had a real following with our members. I shot several 7 mags, but never got too excited about the cartridge. I did not hunt in a manner where I needed a 400 yd rifle, but..... A good pal has given me a Rem 700 LA Classic stock. I really like the looks and feel of the Classics and am considering buying used a Rem 700 BDL and put the barreled action into the Classic. The question then, what caliber? Why not 7mm mag? Another I am considering might be the 35 Whelen. 'Course, I have to find one first! |
