Rock Island Armory GI model. Great gun. The fitting on mine is really good. It has always been totally reliable with anything I shot through it; even with the ACT magazine which came with it.

My first 1911 was a Colt Combat Elite, I believe a "1st gen" in 1988. I no longer have it.

The first 1911 I got to "have" (use) was my Father's. Colt Government model, which he bought used in the late 60s.

Its a solid gun, set up for match shooting, and will still put 5 shots in one ragged hole at 25yds. I can no longer recall what the first 1911 I bought for myself was, many have come and gone over the years, all COLTS or USGI guns. Never had any other brands, never needed or wanted any.

I inherited my Dad's Govt Model in 2003. Its one of the few things of his I have left. I take it shooting on Father's day, until tearful memories choke me up. Some things are more than just things.

First one I bought was a colt gold cup in the 70's.....kept it for about 20 yrs ...but was never in love with it. Gave it to one of my kids...in the 90's...

In about 1998 or so, I had to have another one....so I bought a Wilson CQB in .45acp.( great gun)...bought another Wilson in about 2006 in 9mm ( really love that gun)..../ still have both Wilsons.....

I fooled around with ( just fooled around - never in love ) !! ...with some Kimbers, an Ed Brown, a Les Baer....Springfield TRP.../ priced right, bought em, kept em -- but never loved any of them either....gave those to one of the kids too....

But I still keep & shoot the Wilson's every week !! ....and they are not going anywhere .../ could have saved some money if I had just bought the Wilson's earlier....but sometimes it's about the journey ....1911's are great guns...and my Wilson's are 2 of the top 5 guns I own.

My first 1911 was a Colt 1911 (without the "A1") made in 1918.

My father was a B-24 bomber pilot in WWII and it was his carry piece during that time. He kept it after his service and so I was born into a 1911 in 1946 and it eventually became mine. That 1911 was manufactured the same year that he was born. I have old black and white photos of him with it holstered at his side.

I eventually passed it on to my brother to pass down to his son since I don't have a son. It became something of a family heirloom and I didn't want it getting away.

My first one of ownership is a Colt M1911A1. According to Colt records, it was manufactured on Oct. 11, 1918 and shipped to Bush Terminal Brooklyn, NY on Oct. 15, 1918.

I carried many different M1911A1's during my Army service time and had a Remington Rand in Nam as a side arm.

I don't believe the A1 model was produced until 1924. I could be wrong but don't think I am.

you may be right, but then you may be wrong, considering the man hours that go into
a full custom, i think it is well worth it. I have 7 of these customs, and regardless if there worth it or not is not the point, people like myself can afford the best so we buy the best. I drive a
450,000 Lambourguine, sying that would a cheap Corvette take me anywhere i wanted to go.
sure it would, but i can afford a Lambo. The point im making here is do not knock aa expensive product like a full house custom 1911, just because you cannot afford it, so you
make excuses somehow its over priced.

My 1st 1911 was a SA Range Officer. I have since traded it for a Colt XSE Government Model Stainless. I have also added a SA Loaded Target 9mm

I had a firestorm government model a few years ago. I only shot a couple hundred rounds through it but never a hiccup and shot where I pointed it. It cost me $275 iirc.

My first 1911 was a Kimber Pro Carry II. Loved that gun, 100% reliable out of the box, very accurate, and easy to carry. I had to sell it to help pay some of my wife's medical bills, she had Parkinson's Disease. I bought another Pro Carry II when finances allowed and had the same good luck with it. Then had to sell it a couple of years later to pay more medical bills!! Have had 9 other 1911s since then. My wife passed away 4 years ago. I'm down to 3 now, a Colt XSE LW 45ACP Commander, STI Ranger II all steel 45ACP Commander size, and a Ruger LW 9mm Commander. I love the 1911 platform!!!

My first one was a Colt GM, 70 Series, in electroless nickel, hard chrome, whatever that was they put on them back then. It was a dull shiny color, with black Pachmayr grips. That was during my IPSC phase, when I was under the spell of Jeff Cooper and his crowd.

I had my one and only stupid discharge with that gun. Praise the Lord, no one was hurt and no damage was done and a lesson was learned.

My first was a Kimber Compact Stainless II .

Like Cajun I had my first and only ND with it and I am so glad it was pointed at the ground . I never thought that would or could happen to me , especially at my age . That was also my first semi pistol .

2nd : Dan Wesson Pointman 9
3rd : Springfield TRP - didn't like the sharp front strap .
4th : Ruger SR1911 - bought used at a great price , traded for 3" sp101 .
5th : Ruger SR1911 - bought used at a good price , sold to buy the Colt .
6th : Colt 70 series

The only ones I still have are the Colt and Dan Wesson .
