Wildcat 7mm RemMag
Is there a wildcat that is basically a 7mm RemMag necked up to 338,358, or 375? I know of a 358 Norma and a 375 Taylor, being a 338 necked up to either calibre, but the 338 case is shorter than a 7mm. I want more BOOM. I've thought of a 358 STA or a 375 H&H Improved, but I'm not sure that these would fit in the clip......thus the length issue of the parent case. Also, I don't want to go the Ultra Lotsa Powder route. Not recoil shy. Suggestions anyone?

Not sure where you are getting your information from, but the last time I checked the 7mm Rem Mag and the .338 Win Mag cases are the same length. (As is the .458 Win Mag.)

And don't forget the 264 Win Mag. Also the same length.

300 win mag is the next step up in powder capacity, neck it up to 338. The 300 weatherby case is about 10% more yet. The 340 weatherby is very close to the 300 win in capacity. If you want more than that you go to the incredible 378 case or the ultra cases, that is if you want readily avaliable brass or one that is not a bear to form.

Perhaps we're not understanding the question
but any "belted" case is an offspring of the .375 H&H
.264 Win Mag, 6.5 Rem Mag, 7mmMag, 300 WM, 338 WM, 8MM Rem, 350 Rem Mag, and others that I'm too lazy to look up. Since the .375 is the parent case, I don't think you'll get something longer. If you're looking for more whack, try the 416 Rem. Sized up and a high pressure round. Or, try the Remington Ultra Mag series. They cover about every bore size and are as overbore as is close to reasonable. IIRC they are based on the .404 Jeffrey case. Huge powder capacity. There's also the 30-378 and 338-378 Weatherby. When you reload those, you reach into a bushel basket and scoop out a handful of powder. Just remember that this performance comes at a price. A 10% increase in powder gives a 2 1/2% increase in performance but burns throats WAY faster. The 30-378 is supposed to have a life of maybe 1,000 rounds Last edited by Redneck2; November 14, 2002 at 06:00 PM. |
