M66 gas cutting
My M66 is showing signs of some gas cutting. I usually fire .38s in it but still don't want the occasional .357s to do damage.
Since gas cools as it expands, would it make any sense to use a diamond file to SLIGHTLY bevel the top of the barrel extension? Would that allow the gas to cool more? |

Years ago, S&W put a small oval cut in the top strap to prevent cutting. General feeling is that flame cutting is self-limiting. It will get so large, and no larger.

CHEAP FIX
Take a real soft lead pencil and 'mark' heavily the area being cut. The graphite in the lead helps deflect the flame.
Reapply often.
