Coupla weeks ago

...a new member posted two pistol on this forum for sale. The post was removed as it had been posted at the wrong place not in keeping with the disucssion board policies.

Most of us, myself included were highly skeptical because much about the offer simply did not seem right.

I had PMed the seller before the posting was pulled, made an offer, and the seller responded positively to my offer.

I received the pistols today. Perhaps you recall that the lot included a Phila Derringer and a Mountain Pistol, both from CVA and both assembled kits.

It turns out that the seller is a lady from LA, CA. She assembled the kits herself and did an exquisite job. The pistols, according to her, have never been fired and an inspection of the nipple and the woodwork around the nipple reveals that she is probably telling the truth. She did an excellent job of browning the barrels and finishing the stocks.

So, just in case you were wondering, the poster is strictly on the up and up, even though she went about it the wrong way.

The OP was willing to....

....send me the pistols for examination and just trust that I would send her the payment. I insisted upon that arrangement and she agreed. The payment went out within two hours of the arrival of the pistols.

Okay, here are the photos

The Derringer is first.

On this photo you can see a little discoloration in the rifling. I think this will be pretty much gone with the first coupla shots.

Different angle.

And next is the Mountain Pistol

Same oxidation in the barrel.

I am going to the gun show this week end. These pistols are going along as a possible trade on a revolver or two. (You all remember that I do not do single shot anything.)

Thanks SP79

Took the pistols to the gun show yesterday but did not have the heart to show them to anyone. I am not much for letting go of stuff I accumulate and I would not have got what they are worth.

I will never shoot these pistols. One is .45 and the other is .50 which means two different sizes of balls. These are molds I do not have. I let all of my single shot stuff go years ago.

Maybe I'll put them in a case and hang them on the wall. Maybe I'll put them up on the Gunbroker. Can't decide.

I remember that; they do look nice! If you do decide to get rid of them, give us a chance at them.

At a vastly deflated price of course.
