How can you walk if you hide a Knife in your boot?

I've been wondering how one can keep a Knife in one's boot and still comfortable walk or run? Do you strap it to your leg right above the ankle?

Not as hard as it may appear

for years I carried a 8" bowie style knife in my low heeled cowboy/biker boots. It had a slimline handle with no protruding guard of any kind made it very smooth. I would slode it down the boot behind my heelalong side my leg. after the first couple of days I never noticed it. and I was working on my feet all day back then. Nowadays I wear orthicpedic shoes so the big ones are out.
I still manage to carry 3 or 4 of the smaller ones (folders) easily...
But I DO stay away from airports

I don't like to wear/Carry things that I can't run in. So thats why I was asking. A couple of MY IWB CCW failed the test yesterday. I like to have things tight and secure and not worry about getting jabbed in the foot.

If the upper of your boot is reasonably stiff, a clip-scabbard works quite nicely.

I second what Art Eatman said. I used a Gerber carried this way daily for a couple of years. Unobtrusive, the clip holds it securely in the boot, and the scabbard had a retaining strap with snap over the guard area on the knife. Excellent final defense/3rd backup. I'm prety sure that in some states, this mode of carry requires CCW or is banned. Check you local statutes.

(PS, I was also carrying a duty gun S&W 15, a LTWT .45 Commander for B/U, a Koga baton, sap gloves, and a badge).

I sometimes carry a 6 inch Cold Steel Tanto in my right boot. It is in a custom sheath, made by my leather guy, that clips to the boot top. it stays put all day, under all conditions, and yet the blade pulls out easily when needed.

I've carried a clip scabbard SOG pentagon now for a while. Being lefty I keep it to the inside of my right leg. First week I wore it it chewed a hole in my leg from the sheath. After that I forget its there. Walk, run, climb on helicopters etc.

It sounds to me like it's all about having the right knife. Bulky, top heavy knives with no clips or leg straps wouldn't work. Try one of those flat throwing knives. With a good enough scabbard, you should be able to secure it tightly against your leg.

Yes, use the right knife. I'm planning to pick up a Cold Steel Kobun and maybe a Safe Keeper III as soon as there's more than a few pennies in my knife budget. The Kobun was designed as a boot knife, so it's very thin and light, and comes with a boot clip sheath. I just wish CS would use better steel.

My boots fit nicely, so I usually don't lace them up tightly, or at all. That leaves plenty of room up top for a clip-on knife. I don't know how comfortable just stuffing the sheath down in the boot would be.

Since I was an elementary up to college, I am carrying Balisong which I am putting sometimes in my boots. I improvised a good rubber band to put in place. The size of the knife is 4" if closed, so, that will not be much a nuisance inside my boots. Now, I seldom carry one already.
