Stevens Favorite Lever Plunger Spring

I have a Stevens Favorite 1894. I am missing the lever plunger spring. I need to replace it. Can anyone tell me the dimensions of that spring and is the compression light medium or heavy? And as a follow-up- what does the lever plunger do?

Opening the action does not push the hammer back far enough to catch the sear. Does the lever plunger have anything to do with that?

thanks
Al
