Last viewed messages
For some reason, the last few times I have logged in, only NEW messages that were 24 hours old were showing up as "new", even though the last time I logged in was weeks to months ago. I looked for a setting in the options list but was not able to find it. Any ideas? Thanks.

The odd part about what you observed is that new threads were only one day old. The setting for that is three days. After that time, all threads and posts are considered "read" even if you haven't been logged in.
So, are you sure it was 24 hours for all threads and posts and not possibly 72? The majority of threads will logically be showing as updated recently, but there should be some which weren't posted in for a few days. The three day setting for marking posts read is a board wide parameter and is not changeable individually. |

Hi Mal and thanks for the answer.
Oh it was definitely 24 hours...it was just about a month since I had logged in at that time. Is that somthing that you all newly implemented? If I remember correctly, I use to come on here a month or so at a time and all messages were new that I had not viewed before. Ok on the 3 day setting. Thanks again for the help. Mark |

"Is that something that you all newly implemented?"
No, that function or the settings for it haven't changed in a long time. |

It's a compromise setting. If it was too short, then a lot more members would have the same complaint, and if it was too long then the unread list would fill several pages for several of the forums and it becomes a useless function.
Just go by the date of the threads and posts instead of whether they are highlighted and you shouldn't have a problem finding where you left off last time you visited. |
