What do you pay at your FFL dealer for transferring guns?

Title says it all. It averages around $50.00 here in Huntsville, AL unless you go to Gander Mountain who just started charging $75.99 for their services.

One question: Does an FFL dealer have to pay a fee to the fed. gov. when they transfer a gun from one state to another?

If you reply, please list your general location.

Thanks.

xfer

No fee to the fed I'm aware of.
Here in Arizona I pay 20.00 for every three units, now with the new form, it allows for even more info, can probably get more xfers.
He will also xfer out for 20 bucks per three.
Ok then, good luck sounds like you fellas need a butt guard for the screw job.

Mine here in Amarillo, TX just went up again, was $10, then $15 and now $25. He's cashing in on all the AK/AP transfers he's been doing lately...can't blame him.

usually free, however i feel the transfer thing is an overall picture of my relationship with the dealer i do mostly all my buisness with. i purchase some new stuff ,some used, and some special order. however if i walk in off the street, never buy anything else ever why should he do me a favor? the few bucks i give him for a transfer is NOT gonna keep the lights on for one day or cover any other expenses. fwiw, bobn

In Bama ya gotta shop around. Some are 20, some 50. Also, it is very cool that some FFLs here give discounts to those who have served(Firefighters, Police, Military).

I pay $20 to my friendly pawn brokering FFL, just outside of Denver. The actual gun shops around here want $30 to $75 from what I've seen.

I pay $20 at my local shop. The shop is located in Yadkinville, North Carolina.

I have friends in Asheboro, NC paying as low as $10. When I lived in Charlotte, NC most places charged (on average) $25-$35.

Before reading this thread I thought I had it bad paying $20. Guess I'm actually quite lucky.

At least one of the local ranges charges only $25. If you're a member the Trap club will accept a transfer at no charge but you must make arrangements to have it delivered on a Wednesday when they're open (also open on Sat. and Sun. when no one makes deliveries.

Here in SE Ohio I pay $25 at a close store but I could probably get it cheaper if I wanted to drive a little more.

There is no transaction fee paid to the Feds, only the initial licensing fee and subsequent renewel fees.

Some states require that the background check be done through their own state police in lieu of the FBI NICS check. Those states often charge a fee for each of these state background checks.

I don't charge myself for transfers.

One shop charges $20 each transfer.
Shop two charges $30 for any number of transfers, 1 to 100.
Shop three charges $35 but the owner is a dweeb.
Shop four charges $50.

My dealer has never charged me a thing. Though I've always given him $20 just to cover his time logging the firearm in and out of his books (Idaho does not charge for the NICS check, but I don't have to even go through that - my CWP covers that little item). Although I buy the majority of my guns through him, I won't abuse the business relationship we have.
