Given the minimum carry caliber of a .38, of these guns, which one would you carry for LE work? Hopefully this thread will make up my mind when the time finally comes. I can shoot the mentioned guns comfortably.
1. 1911-various makers 2. Glock 22 3. Sig P229 .40 4. Sig P226 9mm 5. Sig P220 6. HK USP 40c or 45c |

Sig 220
Sig 226 Sig 229 Those are the only ones I would choose from your list. I don't like the Glocks, I don't like cocked & locked handguns for carry, and I don't like the USPs. ------------------ Smith & Wesson is dead to me. If you want a Smith & Wesson, buy USED! |

My first choice would be a dependable 1911...........barring that.........sig and HK both make great guns..........bigger caliber the better.

Given the fact that most departments are not favorable of thier officers carrying cocked and locked, I would go with either the Sig 229 or the Glock 22.
Between the two I'd give a slight edge to the Glock because of weight and sight radius. While the 229 is more compact, it still weighs 7 ounces more than the Glock 22. LEO's are already weighed down with all the other accessories normally carried on a duty rig. The savings in weight I feel would be the deciding factor for comfort while carrying on duty. Hope this helps, Rick [This message has been edited by Bandit (edited October 30, 2000).] |

If the agency will allow it (and they have the deciding vote, by the way), I'd go for a 1911. Caliber choice would be .45 ACP, .40 S&W, or Super 38, in that order.
Second choice is the USP in 45 or 40. ------------------ Archie |

It's a matter of taste, but I'd vote the SIG 229 in .40.
