Rem. 870 Choke Tubes

I am thinking of purchasing a Rem. 870 express so I can try my hand at hunting for the first time this spring during Turkey season.

My choices are between the Rem. 870 field and the Mossberg 500 field, the Mossberg says it comes with a set of chokes, but the Rem. only says it has a Modified Rem. Choke. Is the Modified Rem. Choke removable so it can be changed with other chokes or is it built in?

My only expierence with Rem. 870's are with the 18 inch Police Magnums which have the built in Imp. Cylinder. Not used to dealing with Choke Tubes.

I have a Rem. 870 Express Magnum, plain jane version.
I buy choke tubes for it at Wal-Mart.
Answer, yes.

new or used?

Strange, are you buying new or used? I have two Remington 870 magnums 12 ga and 20 ga. both were purchased new and came with three chock tubes, full mod and imp. I am also an avid turkey hunter and you will likely want to purchase a "super" full as well

Why not just get a field barrel for your Police Magnum?

Rifleman,

Thanks

Zippy,

The Police Magnums I use belong to my work. I have not owned a shotgun for several years.

Are you a Correctional Officer? I retired from the MD system in 98.

Either the 500/590 or the incredible 870 will do well. Pick the one that feels best...

A good buy. Expresses usually come with just a Modifed tube.

For turkey, buy something like Extra Full and pattern your loads.

For GPs,add an IC....
