Using mini shell in the 870
I have an 870 and a Chinese 870 clone.
Will they handle mini shells/and if not, is there a mod to allow them to shoot them? I know about the Opsol for the Mossberg. Is there something similar for the Remington? Thanks in advance. |

I tried a few mini shells in an 870, but did not have much luck. The ones I had were short enough that they would actually flip around or over when trying to feed them.

No, 870's & mini-shells are a bust. You will need a Mossberg/Maverick and a OPSol Mini-Clip adapter (which is a hunk of molded rubber) to properly cycle. It's the different elevator design that messes up the 870's.
That little adapter does work. I've run about a hundred minis out of my 590 & 88. Not a single misfeed. Kinda nice to be able to throw 13 (or 12 it's been a while) rounds downrange from my 88.

I found I could get the mini shells to feed in my 870 if I was very fast cycling the pump. Not giving the shell enough time to flip up on the elevator. That said, it wasn't 100%. And I have given up on the short shells.
