Duck huntin

Do any of you guys hunt duck with a ported barrel ?I'm buying a shotgun that has a ported barrel & some hunters tell me I should shy away from this, they say it's too loud or too much blowback or it disturbs the hunting dogs, what do you guys think ? it's a mossberg 500 3" chamber 28" barrel 3 chokes vent rib, all the new ones i've seen are ported, @ $199.00 I thought this was a pretty good deal. any responses appreciated

(have similar post on shotgun forum, but not much response)

Since duck hunting usually means people in the blind really close to you, I would be leery. Ported barrels are significantly louder. Not to you, but to the people beside you.

They also tend to "spit" hot gas, powder, maybe even lead shavings, off the the side. People close to you (beside you) will not like it.

I really don't think the porting is necessary on a 12 guage. Keep in mind recoil is a very subjective thing, but when the birds are cupping up on your decoy spread and your calling and ready to hammer them, you won't feel the recoil, even with 3 1/2 inch mags. A ported barrel is louder, and nobody I know wears hearing protection while hunting. Id skip it.

I hate ported barrels. Dangerous to be around with smaller shot sizes. Annoying the rest of the time.
If you saw it off just back of the holes it should be just fine. Or for a few bucks more get a Rem 870 express.
