For SSP in IDPA: Beretta FS92 Brigadier or...Glock 34

And why?

Jim, My figuring was that the heavier Beretta (35 oz) would have less kick than the Glock (24 oz), but, it is true, I see a lot of 34s in IDPA... I just wasn't sure why. I still don't.

Glock. Easier to get a nice consistent and lighter trigger pull. With the right parts you can actually get them down to about 2lbs and even slightly less. You also don't have to deal with a heavy double action first pull.

Lycanthrope, Are you saying i can do IDPA-legal trigger work that will get the safe action lighter and smoother and still qualify for Stock Service Pistol class?

For me..and probably a lot others..the Beretta is big gun..hard to get your finger on the trigger for the DA first shot. The Glock is easier to shoot and even though it is lighter has a lower bore axis than the Beretta.

You can get a great trigger on a Glock..I had a G34 worked over by Charlie Vanek..it pulled trigger weights just under 2#. short reset and no overtravel..it was very nice..

Some people can shoot the crunchentickers well, many can't. That would make me pick the 34.

reasons for the 34

No loading block issues. I've seen lots of Berettas t/u at the range. Every accessory in the world is instantly available for the Glock at better prices. Beretta has a longer trigger reset and reach. Easier sight changes. That having been said, the Beretta is a lot classier

Glock 34

-Consistent trigger pull that a trained monkey can work on. Cheap trigger parts if you screw them up.

-Slightly longer sight radius

-Lower bore axis counteracts the lighter weight as compared to the Beretta

-Cheap magazines, although the Beretta is a close 2nd in this category

-Shorter trigger reach, which matters unless you have hands like mine

-Accurate enough for IDPA work

-Glock durability and reliability. I don't buy into the "Perfection" marketing, but nobody can deny their well-earned reputation. There have been whispers of various issues with Beretta's.

That's about all I can think of right off the top of my head.

I've shot both the Beretta and a Glock in IDPA and had consistently better results with a Glock. i personally found myself constantly shooting low with my Beretta and didn't suffer from that once I purchased a Glock. I shoot CZs and 1911s now in IDPA, but would go back to a Glock before I would a Beretta.
