Savage model 12 Rebarrel help

Hi all, I need a little help, I have a savage model 12 currently chambered in 243 win, and i looking to rebarrel the rifle mainly because i have two other 243's and now i wanna play a little bit. Ive been looking at shilen replacement barrels and was wondering can I use a barrel chambered for 220 swift with the short action receiver that I have? Ive heard the they consider the 220 swift a long action cartridge, Is this true. Now im not worried about using the magazine in the rifle single feed is fine being that im gonna use this mainly for groundhogs around the farm. Thanks for the help.

The 220 Swift works just fine in a short action , in fact , it's the one to use . The swift is a .473 rim so it will work with your boltface . That being said , the Swift doesn't do anything the 22-250 can't do . There is alot more 22-250 brass in the pipeline than .220 Swift . Flip a coin !
